If you are checking this wine out, you most certainly know your Burgs very well and about Charles Lachaux, whom in our opinion is one of the rising young stars in Burgundy now. Extremely limited! 2015 was a great vintage too as you know. Believe us that his prices though risen over the last few years...will only go higher!
The Arnoux-Lachaux Clos de Vougeot is from the climate Quartier de Marei Haut in the top of the vineyard (a good thing given the ongoing climate change!). Like many other Clos de Vougeots of the 2015 vintage offering a surprising freshness and good acidity. The bouquet offer fine detailed fruit – oak well integrated – with a nice deep earthy minerality – quite vibrant and floral for a Clos de Vougeot. On the palate very balanced and focused offering a fine verve and freshness. A fine year for Clos de Vougeot … and this is a lovely and focused effort build for pleasure. Drink 2025 till 2040.
Charles and his father Pascal Lachaux. In 2012 he took over the domaine and name has been changed from Robert Arnoux to Arnoux-Lachaux.
Some of the things that Charles have done include changing how he is working in the vineyards and is touching each vine. The vineyards are in conversion to biodynamic agriculture. He's replanting vines very densely at 20,000 vines per hectare in certain parcels. In half of the vineyards, inspired by Lalou Bize-Leroy, he has stopped hedging his vines. This allows for more photosynthesis, getting more energy to each grape. It takes twice as long and four times the number of workers for this canopy management, but the results are worth it. The wines have an incredible energy, and elegance, and are some of the best expressions of Vosne and Nuits available.
