Hajszan Neumann is one of the first biodynamic wine producers from Vienna, Austria. Yes, just in the outskirt of the city centre! You can imagine the land cost!
Their aim is to make authentic and natural wines that express the terroir as well as natural flavours of the grape varieties. Production is small - less than 110,000 bottles per year. That's half of famous Bordeaux First Growth Lafite Rothschild!
The Zweigelt made in the Nussberg region (limestone based and best wine growing region in Vienna) is a low sulphur wine with only 52mg/l of SO2. That's almost half of the permissible sulphur on organic certified wine and on the low side of biodynamic limit.
If you are looking for a serious Zweigelt with good structure (oak ageing), this will impress with its intensity and purity of fruit.
Medium Ruby in colour. Really fresh and attractive blackberries and dark cherries with hint of sweet spices. Medium acidity, bright and fresh black berries and cranberries on the palate enveloped by medium tannins which lend it structure and character. Medium plus fruity length. Can imagine this being lovely with roast chicken for finger food. Drink now till 2028!
