When we tasted this wine, we knew we had to add superb white wine from Greece to our portfolio!
Assyrtiko is the grape variety of Santorini in Greece. Yes, Santorini, the famous and beautiful Greek island.
Grown from mineral rich volcanic soil and on high altitude, it retains freshness while achieving excellent ripeness in the warm Mediterranean climate. From vines of over 120 years old (ancestral vines they call it)! 34 refers to the 34 centuries of viticulture on the island! Only 16,000 bottles made.
Pale lemon colour. On the nose, it is a little restrained. Fresh ripe apples and wet stones minerality. The palate has lovely ripe lemon, lemon rind (slight bitterness) and ripe apple notes backed by excellent minerality/salinity and juicy mouth watering freshness. Medium bodied. Drink now till 2030. Yes, this will be a keeper!
We highly recommend this wine to serious wine enthusiasts and connoisseurs. What a discover! We knew Assyrtiko is the best Greek white grape variety but never tasted such a serious Assyrtiko!
Food Pairing: For acid hounds, you can drink on its own. For most of us, this would go with a grilled fish say salmon or dover sole. Salt baked barramundi would be nice too given the pronounced salty minerality of the wine.
