The 10.5-hectare vineyard of Château Le Gay in Pomerol AOC is planted to 90% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Franc. The vineyard has a terroir of clay and gravel soil on the Pomerol plateau.
The 2014 Le Gay has a perfumed and ebullient bouquet with blackberry, leather and warm brick aromas. I appreciate the delineation here and the manner in which it blossoms in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin, well balanced and gentle in style, caressing with pure strawberry and cranberry scents towards the elegant finish. This is a great Le Gay. Tasted blind at the annual Southwold tasting. 2022 - 2045. Vinous 94 pts (2018)
Blueberries and spices with some black-pepper aromas. Medium body and firm and silky tannins that are polished and integrated. Needs two to three years to soften. Tight and pretty. James Suckling 93 pts
