One of the jewels in Rioja’s crown and only made in exceptional vintages, Olivo is a single vineyard Rioja offering by CVNE.
Viñedos del Contino was created by CVNE and the family owners of the state in 1973, establishing the “château” concept in the Rioja region. The estate embraces vineyards and wines, and is rooted in an ancestral home inside a bend in the Ebro river. Its wines are made exclusively from the stocks planted on its 62 hectares located in Laserna, near the town of Laguardia in the Rioja Alavesa wine making region.
Still deep ruby. Lush, plump and beautifully structured wine. As it is still young, the oak flavours are still pronounced but pleasant. Unlike most Rioja which use American oak, this uses a combo of American, French and Hungarian oak barrels during maturation stage for 17 months. The wine is aged a further one year in bottle before release.
This would benefit from a little more age to allow its stunning depth, intensity and clarity to shine. It promises a long and rewarding future: snap it up while you can! Drink now (with decanting and food) till 2035.
Food Pairing: Any grilled meat if you drink now till next 5 years. With longer bottle ageing, stewed lamb would be superb. We do not recommend drinking this wine on its own!
