Selected barrels of Huber's 2014 vintage of Malterdinger. Bottled and aged in their cellar until release in late 2022!
This Pinot Noir has great intensity and good structure. Drink now with decanting or cellar for the next 5 to 10 years. Try blinding this wine to Burg lovers!
Some background info:
This is a village quality wine from Bernhard Huber, probably the most famous German Pinot Noir producer.
Fruits come from vines of about 25 years of age.
Malterdinger has always been regarded as a substitute wine while you wait for their Alte Reben or Grand Cru wines to be ready. A big step up in terms of intensity compared to the basic Spätburgunder. If you like the basic one, you will be in for a treat. You must try this to compare.
Malterdingen is the same village where their other two Grand Cru - Bienenberg and flagship Wildenstein is from. The winery is also located in this village. Lovely Thai restaurant there where we will get our fix especially if we have been on tour for more than a week and missing Asian food. :)
The cool Julian Huber (in black) who took over in 2013 after Bernhard passed away. He has done an excellent job and we agreed that he filled the big shoes and in fact improved the Chardonnay style at Huber!
