Camartina is a highly rated Super Tuscan at a very reasonable price. Compared to the rest at least. :) The estate's flagship Super Tuscan was produced since 1981, this wine is typically made of 70% Cabernet Sauvignon and 30% Sangiovese.
Its nuanced opulence and seductive character have won Camartina the favours of wine critics around the world. In 2004, it was named Best Italian Wine and frequently appears on the lists of the best Super Tuscans. Camartina’s outstanding ability to evolve over time has wowed world-renown critic Jancis Robinson who couldn’t conceal her amusement – “Oo, that is rather lovely!” – after tasting a 17-years old Camartina.
Camartina is only produced in optimal vintages, while small-batch micro-vinification and an extremely limited bottling guarantee hand-crafted excellence!
'I like the 2011s from Tuscany a lot, and this wine is no exception. It was a pretty hot vintage in most of Italy, but the fruit tended to be ripe and charming rather than jammy. This has super-bright, precise leafy blackcurrant notes, very pure and intense - I love the nose! On the palate the firm, compact tannins are ripe but tight, joined by vibrant, juicy cassis flavours and bright acidity. It's a controlled, very Cabernet-dominant style - a lively, joyful expression.' Decanter 93 pts
