If you are looking for wines with individuality that reflect BOTH the terroir and vintage, look no further than wines from Zind-Humbrecht. Olivier Humbrecht MW is France's first Master of Wine (MW) and the president of Biodyvin, the viticulture only biodynamic association.
This is a dry Pinot Gris which is easy on its own and also quite versatile with most Asian food. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED! For this 2017 vintage, you are actually getting grapes entirely from their single vineyard - the famed Clos Windsbuhl. For those who are new to Zind Humbrecht, they are probably the most famous Alsace producer! This wine is certified Organic and Biodynamic. By the way, Roche Calcaire means limestone soil - our favourite soil! So you bet you will get some minerality!
This wine comes exclusively in 2017 from the Pinot-Gris vineyards planted between 1990 and 1992 on the Clos Windsbuhl in Hunawihr. They are producing a very consistent quality, but always remain behind the oldest vines in terms of ultimate quality potential. The smaller 2017 crop, perfectly healthy grapes and good ripeness would have brought this wine as close as possible to the potential and profoundness of the old vines. The grapes ripened quickly, allowing for an earlier harvest and it was therefore easy to avoid excessive power. The fermentation allowed for a very dry style of Pinot-Gris, making this wine arguably one of the most interesting Calcaire Pinot-Gris made on the estate recently.
