Don't fuss about the difficult name. Simply try this new Grand Cru Riesling from Zind-Humbrecht. Olivier Humbrecht MW acquired 1 ha of this vineyard from his vineyard manager. He couldn't be happier because of the old vines and more importantly the resultant wines that this historical Grand Cru produced in vintage 2022 (first vintage).
Very impressive - good precision and saline minerality. We have a soft spot for these type of wines.
The soil is similar to the Brand and Sommerberg terroirs: biotite granite with two types of micas. However, the Wineck-Schlossberg is not at the end of a deep valley like the Brand, the microclimate is perhaps more extreme between cold and hot periods throughout the year. However, the proximity of the mountains guarantees cooler temperatures in the evening and less risk of sunburn. In summary, a cooler site than Brand Grand Cru which is ideal in this global warming trend.
Vintage 2022 produced only 21hl/ha. Super tiny yield. No wonder this is so limited! Ideally drink from 2030 to 2050.
